Alliance Endorses Political Newcomer over 14-year Incumbent At their forum on Thursday, August 26, 2004, the Alliance for Good Government endorsed New Orleans Businessman and Civic Leader Art Schwertz in the Second Congressional District Race over the 14-year Incumbent William Jefferson. Schwertz told the meeting of the Jefferson and Orleans Alliances, "that to move our Metropolitan Area forward, we must transform the inner city of New Orleans." "If we don't address the problems in the inner city, the entire region will slowly die from the center out," Schwertz added. "We must transform our district by bringing vo-tech education and better paying jobs into the poorer areas of our community." Schwertz asked those in attendance, "What has Jefferson done for the District in the past 14 years?" He concluded by saying, "It's time to bring the District back to the People!" |
